Religion and the Media

 

Year 8 pupils have recently began a unit on 'Religion and the Media' and are looking at various newspaper stories to see whether religion is portrayed in a negative or a positive way.  To do this they will need to research what the story is about and the religious teachings surrounding it.  Pupils need to complete this survey to let me know their initial thoughts.

Some Year 8 pupils have been creating collages based on their learning of the Muslim belief in life after death.  They chose either Jannah (Heaven) or Jahannam (Hell).  A Special Mention went to this first fantastic piece in chalks and pastels.  Let me know what you think.

 

 

Jewish Beliefs in Life After Death

Year 8 are learning about Death Rites and Beliefs in Life After Death this term.  They have performed some fantastic dramas of the customs and traditions remembered after a Jewish person has died.  Now they are looking at Gan Eden and Sheol, the places where some Jewish people believe they may go following death.  Here is the powerpoint to remind them of the description of these places as they will be preparing collages for display soon.  Watch this space...Download The Jewish Funeral

Twix = Trinity?!?

Year 8 pupils have been learning about the concept of the Trinity and to help them they ate a Twix bar!  After discussing how the wrapper was a reminder of Jesus (gold - gift for a king, red - blood He shed, white - purity). Whilst enjoying the chocolate they discussed the fact that it is one bar (Supreme God), which is made up of three separate things (chocolate, biscuit and caramel) that can be enjoyed (and understood) together or separately.  Pupils then thought of other analogies to explain this 3 in 1 concept ranging from a meal (starter, main course and sweet) to pizza (base, tomato and topping).  Who said R.E. was boring!!

Belief in God

Year 8 have been learning about Belief in God this term.  They have looked at each of the six main faiths but specifically at their belief, or not, in God.  They have then used this learning to produce a leaflet to give to the Headmaster with suggestions to improve our Collective Acts of Worship to ensure that the needs of everyone in the school is met.  There have been some fantastic pieces of work with many Special Mentions and even some Level 6 work.  Mrs Bushell is very excited!!  Tell me what you think about this topic.
