Year 5 pupils took part in a 'Hindu Day' today with Krishna Avesha from Bhaktivedanta Manor, Watford, London. They learnt about meditation, the Hindu belief in God and the importance of worship in Hindus everyday lives. Some pupils were invited to dress up as one of the three gods in the Trimurti, Brahman, Vishnu and Shiva and some dressed up as their wives! Then all the pupils had the opportunity to dress up in saris/turbans and have their faces painted. Tell me what you thought of the day by leaving a comment.
All the pupils of the school were then able to take part in a Special Act of Service taken by Krishna who told the story of Rama and Sita (with the help of some of the pupils) and performed Aarti which is the Hindu worship. Leave a comment to let me know what you thought about the service.
Year 5 pupils have been learning about Advent over the past half term and have looked at the symbolism within the advent wreath. Pupils were even able to answer all Mr Morris' questions in assembly this week! Each week pupils will be focusing on 'Hope', 'Peace'. 'Joy' and 'Love' looking at how important these concepts are to Christians and how relevant they are in today's world. They have produced powerpoints about important Christians such as Martin Luther King, William Wilberforce and Oscar Romero, who gave hope to different people. They have made St. Nicholas models and learnt about the importance of giving. Leave a comment to let me know what you thought about the topic and to help you in your preparation to Christmas Day here are two links to advent calendars together with Christmas fun activities. http://www.reep.org/resources/advent/2007/ and http://www.woodlands-junior.kent.sch.uk/customs/Xmas/calendar/index.html
Year 5 pupils have been learning about Creation and used paintings by a Cornish artist Kate Neal of each 'day' of the Genesis creation story. They replicated her work using collage, chalks and crayons and some work is now on display in the new RE room. I think their work is...
Year 5 classes have been looking at the Christian story of creation. Some have worked in groups and produced class displays showing what Christians believe was created on each of the seven days. The children then produced poems with the theme of Creation in mind. Have a look at some of their work and leave a comment.
